Day 12 without nicotine

Saying no to an offered vape, pouch or cigarette is easier if you have practised.

What's happening

Being around other people who use nicotine is a common trigger. The NHS lists being with smokers or seeing others smoke. Smokefree.gov lists seeing someone use a vape.

It helps to decide what you will say before it happens. Smokefree.gov suggests keeping it simple and direct: "No, thanks. I quit."

Support matters. The NHS suggests building a support system with friends who don't smoke. Most people are kinder about it than you expect.

What helps today

  • Practise your answer out loud: "No, thanks. I quit."
  • Ask friends who vape, use pouches or smoke not to offer and not to use right next to you.
  • Spend more time this week with people who don't use nicotine.
  • If you need to, step away for a few minutes until the urge passes.
