Day 8 without nicotine

Many urges now come from routines, not just withdrawal.

What's happening

As the physical withdrawal settles a little, you may notice that urges show up at the same moments every day. These are routine triggers. The NHS lists drinking coffee, driving or walking somewhere, waiting for a bus or ride, and finishing a meal.

Smokefree.gov adds triggers that are common for vaping, like being on your phone or waiting around. With pouches, many people link them to work, driving or after eating.

Knowing your triggers is key to staying in control, the NHS says. Once you can name them, you can change them.

What helps today

  • Write down your three most common routine triggers today.
  • Change one part of each routine: swap coffee for another drink for a while, or get up from the table right after eating.
  • Find something for your hands and mouth, like gum or a crunchy snack.
  • Keep your phone busy with a game or message when you would usually vape.
