Day 23 without nicotine

A strong urge out of nowhere doesn't mean you're back at the start.

What's happening

Weeks in, a craving can still come on suddenly and feel very strong. It is often set off by a trigger you didn't notice, like a smell, a place, a song or a feeling.

The NHS says cravings are hardest in the first 28 days as your body adjusts. Smokefree.gov says cravings are temporary and fade the longer you stay quit.

A single craving still passes in minutes. The American Lung Association says urges pass in three to five minutes whether you use or not.

What helps today

  • When a surprise urge hits, change what you're doing right away.
  • Afterwards, note what set it off so you can plan for it.
  • Have a go-to craving routine: water, 10 slow breaths, a short walk.
  • Remind yourself the urge will pass in minutes.
